Summer is usually known as a slow time in regards to new video game releases. I recently found out about an upcoming release that has me looking forward to July. King of Fighters XII debuts on the Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3 on July 16, 2009. This new installment of the franchise boasts some beautifully hand drawn 2d sprites. However due to the time it took developers to make the sprites, there are only 20 playable characters, the lowest number ever in any game of the series. It’s a trade off, but in a trade of quality versus quanity, I’ll take quality everytime.
The character roster will consist primarily of characters from early KOF games, with the majority of them reverting to their classic KOF designs. The characters that will make their appearances in this highly antisipated game are as followed:

- Shen Woo
- Kyo Kusanagi
- Benimaru Nikaido
- Goro Daimon
- Iori Yagami
- Athena Asamiya
- Sie Kensou
- Chin Gentsai
- Terry Bogard
- Andy Bogard
- Joe Higashi
- Kim Kaphwan
- Raiden
- Ryo Sakazaki
- Robert Garcia
- Ralf Jones
- Clark Still
- Leona Heidern
It has also been confirmed that two additional characters will be available for the home versions of the game:

i dont normally play fighting games but when i have it was usually Soul Calibur, Tekken or Street Fighter. Is this more of an “underground” franchise or something like that?

aaahh, that would explain it. Tragically I haven’t been in what any respectable gamer would call an arcade in many years. Anyways, I hear you on the “slow summer” months in accordance to game releases. I’m going to be playing alot of Fight Night Round 4 and finishing up games like Bioshock, Red Faction, Mass Effect & Quantum of Solace. Once September hits its all over!
